One of the things I look at in a piece before I buy it is its versatility. I picked this sleeveless vest up in Amsterdam and love all its pairing possibilities. So I thought it would be fun to show you a few ways I've styled it over the past few months. I started out with a basic three piece outfit and built on it from there. I wanted to really show how one piece could change the outcome of the same outfit depending on how you wear it.
For the first look I removed my third piece and paired my Topshop navy vest with the everyday uniform, jeans and tee. The outer shell really helped pull everything together and gave my normal outfit just a little something extra.
For the second look I threw my coat on and used my vest as an additional under layer. Is it another coat? Does it have sleeves? Is it a scarf? I have to say this is one of my favorite ways to style the vest in the winter. It adds so much extra warmth without adding bulk. I hate layers that you can't move in.
For the third look I belted the vest and popped the collar. This was my attempt to wear the vest as a dress, which you can totally do. I sized a few sizes down when I bought mine so it didn't work out exactly as planned but I hope you get the general idea. If you are a visual person take a look at this post from a few months back. That's a sleeveless vest worn as a dress. Genius right!
Finally I added the vest to the outer layer of my coat. This is a great way again to add warmth but also change up an item of clothing that you maybe have lost interest in. Adding the vest added another layer of interest and completely changed my coat. It went from a solid wall of color to a color blocked masterpiece pleasing to the eye.
Just a little look into my thought process when I'm out shopping
and maybe got a few ideas of your own. Make that fashion dollar go farther.
