One of the things that Husband and I love to do when traveling is go through castles and palaces.  We love seeing how other people lived and decorated their homes. This trip we decided to visit Muiderslot Castle which is about 45 mins outside of Amsterdam.  The castles story begins in 1280 and includes its conquest, subsequent destruction and 100 years later its reconstruction on the same land with the same plan. What you see today is her restored glory.

We began our journey with a ride on public transportation and a small walk down through the cutest town.  Small and quaint you could imagine its residents lives outside the castle walls. Once we arrived we were greeted by manicured lawns and tall gardens. Care was put into the restoration and it showed.  The castles interiors were actually quite modest. Our tour only provided us access to four of the handful of rooms but each was furnished with only what was needed.  It was very minimalistic compared to other castles and palaces we have seen on our trips.  A refreshing change to the over abundance one sees.  We stayed a few hours walking the interiors and exploring the grounds. The weather turned colder and it was time to leave.

We walked back through the sleepy little town admiring the canal lined street and fishing boats. The perfect end to a good day.

See you soon
